Cyanotype And Visual Poetry Workshop
An artist-led exploration of light, memory, and one of the world's oldest photographic processes.
Join us at the Catacombs of Neto Art Museum for an immersive 2½-hour workshop where sunlight becomes your creative partner. Using the historic cyanotype process, you'll create luminous Prussian blue prints inspired by nature, storytelling, and the symbolism of the moon.
Through guided demonstrations and hands-on exploration, you'll learn how to transform botanicals, found objects, and thoughtfully curated imagery into expressive works of art. Along the way, we'll explore composition, layering, and visual poetry—inviting you to create artwork that is both personal and timeless.
Whether you're an experienced artist or discovering cyanotypes for the first time, this workshop offers a welcoming space to experiment, play, and connect with the creative process.
Two Dates: Saturdays 1:00-3:30pm, September 19th and October 24th
Your Experience Includes

All cyanotype chemistry and materials
Multiple sheets of cyanotype paper to create several finished prints

Time to experiment, refine your work, and leave with a collection of original cyanotypes on 5×7 paper

Optional Artist Upgrades
For those wishing to deepen their creative exploration, optional artist upgrades allow you to work with premium hand-coated papers and incorporate personal imagery into your cyanotype practice during the workshop. These upgrades can be selected during registration or added on-site, depending on your creative vision and availability.

Personal Cyanotype Collection
Transform your own memories into cyanotype artwork. Upload 1–3 digital photographs in advance, and your instructor will prepare custom cyanotype-ready digital negatives for use during the workshop.
Advance registration is required for custom photo negatives.
No prior experience is necessary.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Jenny Urbanek is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and the founder of Integration Healing and the Catacombs of Neto Art Museum in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward. She earned her BFA in Photography from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (2009) and her Master of Arts in Art Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2014).
For more than 15 years, Jenny has taught art in a wide range of educational and community settings, helping people of all experience levels discover their own creative voice. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes curiosity, experimentation, and the belief that art is both a powerful creative practice and a meaningful way to connect with ourselves and the world around us.
Recently, Jenny has become deeply immersed in the historic cyanotype process. What began as a fascination has grown into a true artistic obsession. She continually experiments with new techniques, hand-coats papers, explores alternative processes, and combines cyanotypes with collage, botanical materials, photography, and visual storytelling. Her work celebrates the magic of sunlight, the rich depth of Prussian blue, and the unexpected beauty that emerges through experimentation.
Jenny's workshops blend fine art, photography, history, and hands-on exploration in a welcoming, museum setting. Whether you're creating your very first cyanotype or expanding your artistic practice, she invites you to slow down, embrace the process, and discover the joy of making art with light.
